Quick Answer (highlighted box)
How do I pay for Punjab’s public transport now?
Use the T-Cash Card or the eTransit Punjab app. PITB, the Punjab Transport Department and the Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMA) launched them together in July 2026 for Metro Bus and electric bus services, and the card is also used on the Orange Line and Speedo buses. Not an official government website. We’re an independent guide. Use only the official eTransit Punjab app and PMA channels.
What Is T-Cash?
The T-Cash Card is a rechargeable smart card for paying fares on Metrobus, the Orange Line Metro Train, Speedo Bus and Electro Bus services, plus other integrated systems, according to ProPakistani. It was approved in July 2025 as a single unified card across Metro Bus and Orange Line routes, and student versions were planned. [verify the status of the student card.]
How Do I Apply for a T-Cash Card?
PMA’s announced rules (ProPakistani, 17 October 2026):
- You must be at least 18 and hold a valid CNIC.
- Three channels: the eTransit Punjab app, the eTransit website and the 1762 helpline, where an agent can help.
- After processing, you collect your card at a Metro station (Kashmir English), or by delivery, with charges set by PMA. [verify the fee and delivery charges, which I couldn’t see.]
Important: PMA said card recharges should not be made through the eTransit Punjab app. Follow your bank’s payment instructions and verify account details before transferring money. [verify this carefully. It’s a scam-prevention point.]
What Are the Fares?
- Metro Bus (Lahore, Rawalpindi-Islamabad, Multan): PMA raised the fare by Rs 10 to Rs 40 from 26 March 2026. T-Cash holders pay Rs 25, a Rs 15 discount under a subsidy scheme. [verify the current fares.]
- Free travel ended: the government ended its free public transport scheme in June 2026, with passengers paying regular fares from 13 June 2026, across the Orange Line, Metro Bus, Speedo Bus and Green Bus services (Aaj). [verify.]
What About Tokens and Old Cards?
PhoneWorld reported that PMA was discontinuing tokens and the traditional card system on the Orange Line, Speedo and Metro Bus, so passengers use a T-Cash Card, the app or an ATM or bank card, and that old card balances would not be refunded. But in August 2026, PMA said there was no change to the Orange Line’s ticketing system and urged people not to share unverified information, saying updates will come only through official PMA channels. [These two reports conflict. Check PMA’s official channels for the current rule before you publish or travel.]
Tips
- Check PMA’s official page or helpline 1762 before relying on tokens or old cards.
- Keep your card balance and receipt.
- Report a lost card through the helpline. [verify the process.]
- Don’t recharge through unofficial apps or agents.
Avoid Scams
- Use only the official eTransit Punjab app and PMA stations. Fake apps exist.
- Don’t pay “agents” for card issue.
- Don’t share OTPs, CNIC photos or card details.
- Beware of fake “refund” or “recharge” links.
