Quick Answer

What is the School Information System?
The School Information System (SIS) is Punjab’s central database for public schools, developed by PITB for the School Education Department (SED). Schools use it to register students (kindergarten to grade 12), verify teacher profiles and report enrolment and attendance. [verify the current scope] It’s mainly for schools and officials, so parents don’t log in to look up schools.

School Information System (SIS) in Punjab: What It Is and What Parents and Teachers Should Know

Not an official government website. We’re an independent guide. Use only official School Education Department channels, and never share your SIS login.

What Does SIS Do?

  • Started: in April 2017, SED and PITB set up a tablet-based SIS so schools can self-report data in real time. [That’s from PITB. verify.]
  • Scale: PITB says it’s deployed across about 50,000 public schools, and in 2018 it had enrolled about 11.4 million students. [Those figures are older.]
  • Features: student registration, teacher profile verification and records, enrolment reports, and automatic daily enrolment reports by school, markaz and tehsil.
  • Attendance: PITB announced daily student attendance on tablets from 1 March 2018. [verify the current practice.]
  • Quality checks: PITB also used call-centre calls to parents to check that schools’ registered data was accurate. [verify whether this continues.]

What Do Parents Need to Know?

  • Student registration needs a parent or guardian’s CNIC number, according to The News. [verify.]
  • A school must be registered with SED to use the system.
  • Ask the school if your child is correctly registered, and check the name, B-Form number and grade. See our B-Form guide.
  • Don’t share OTPs or CNIC photos if someone calls claiming to be “SIS staff”.

What Do Teachers Need to Know?

SIS is also used for staffing. ProPakistani reported in June 2026 that SED announced a new e-transfer round and directed district education authorities to ensure promoted teachers are tagged correctly on SIS. It warned that teachers who don’t submit enough preferences for vacant posts may be posted by the department against any vacancy through the SIS portal. [verify the current rules before publishing.]

An older report put Punjab’s sanctioned teaching posts at 441,718, with 317,232 filled and 124,486 vacant, according to SIS data. [That’s from a third-party site, and it isn’t dated. Don’t present it as current.]

What Are SIS Reports Used For?

PMIU’s Annual School Census 2024-25 uses the SIS and related systems to track enrolment, classrooms and teachers. [verify.] Researchers have also flagged gaps between enrolment figures and SIS data, and SED has directed districts to fix discrepancies. [verify.]

What About Private Schools?

PITB built PEPRIS (Private Education Provider Registration and Information System) to digitise private schools’ profiles across Punjab. [verify.]

What About Sindh?

Sindh uses SEMIS (Sindh Education Management Information System), run by the Reform Support Unit with EU and UNICEF support, for school profiling, data collection and planning. [verify.]

Tips

  • Keep your child’s B-Form and CNIC details correct.
  • Teachers: check your SIS profile after promotion or transfer.
  • Report errors to the school head and your district education office.
  • Use official links only.

Avoid Scams

  • Never share your SIS login or OTPs.
  • Beware of fake “SIS APK” download sites. Some third-party sites offer SIS apps. Use only official SED channels.
  • Don’t pay anyone for “posting” or “tagging” on SIS.
